The Foundation will provide funding for projects that enhance the livability of the City and enrich the lives of the residents. Projects may take many forms, including those that build on the multitude of amenities existing in the City, like funding rest areas along the many walking and biking trails, the erection of historical markers describing the origins of the city as a fur trading post, the significance of the area to Native Americans, and the importance of its location at the confluence of the
Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. Community enhancement may also include cultural programming, art installations, music, and other enrichment programs.
The Foundation will serve as an incubator and facilitator for the nonprofit community in the City by offering charitable and organizational services to program partners. Through an application and grant process, the Foundation will partner with other non-profit organizations in the City whose missions are consistent with the goals and mission of the Foundation.
Mendota Heights is uniquely located along the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers with abundant areas of woodland and green space. The Foundation will work with other non-profit groups in the city to provide education and outreach to promote social connectedness around environmental and sustainability issues. These efforts may include outreach on alternative energy; education on invasive vegetation; and various other educational forums for homeowners and businesses to enhance knowledge, encourage environmentally sustainable behavior, build community and enhance the overall health of the City’s ecosystem.
The Foundation will provide funding for activities and programs that foster artistic, cultural and recreational opportunities for young people. Particular emphasis will be on removing barriers to participation for economically disadvantaged youth. Specific programs may include the development of recreational facilities; structured art education and expression, environment and sustainability programs, and intergenerational learning through the pairing of children with our significant population of seniors.
The Foundation will provide funding for activities and programs offering opportunities for community engagement and life-long learning. Programs may include intergenerational learning programs; Community dialogue, including featured speakers and conversations around contemporary issues of importance to seniors; and other senior enrichment programs that promote social engagement and healthy living.
